Biodiesel And Human Health
By now we all have come across the term biodiesel and the various terminologies that are associated with it. Environment friendly is one such term that has been associated with it since the inception of the idea of this alternative fuel. Now however it has been proven that not only is the fuel environment friendly but it is also human friendly i.e. it prevents human health from being affected too much by the emissions that are produced from this fuel. As such biodiesel production has got a newer angle and new enthusiasm for its producers.
There is no other fuel known which does not harm human health and therefore the production of biodiesel becomes all the more important as other than running our cars and doing fuel related jobs it will also ensure safer environment and cleaner air to breathe. Biodiesel also allows the reusage of materials that we throw away as waste. In fact there are procedures of biodiesel production from used petroleum and vegetable oils. Further, this fuel emits lesser amounts of carbon monoxide than normal fuels do. We all know that carbon monoxide is bad for us but we hardly know why.
Well carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas in that it reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of our blood. What happens is that, when we inhale CO then it combines with the haemoglobin of our blood cells to produce carboxyhaemoglobin that is an irreversible compound. As such the oxygen cannot be taken up by the haemoglobin, automatically reducing oxygen content in body. People have been known to die from this poisoning and biodiesel production will decrease it if not completely stop it.
Why are we pressing about the health issues of biodiesel?
Well, with the rate of pollution rising, the earth may very well become an alien planet on which sustaining life will be difficult and therefore anything which will prevent the earth from meeting this fate is welcome and biodiesel is surely one such thing. Did you know that with the increase in biodiesel production cancer of a certain type will be eliminated?
Well, petroleum fuels produce aromatic compounds of a polycyclic nature which are responsible for producing cancer in humans. If these productions can be reduced then considerable reduction in cancer amongst human beings can be hoped for. So for all of these reasons and many more biodiesel production should be increased to improve our environmental as well as physical health.
