Automatic Biodiesel Processors
With all these campaigns against environmental pollution that you watch on your TV or read about in the paper, you may feel that it is the high time that you should take some measures to reduce your carbon footprints on Earth. One major way you can contribute to decrease the air pollution significantly is by switching to a car run by biodiesel.
Making your own biodiesel may not sound good to you if you are one of those who would like to get everything at the click of a button. It can be tricky as well as messy to mix everything in the right proportion to make biodiesel and then finally to rid the biodiesel of glycerin. If you are using a modular or a portable biodiesel processor, you will still need to be cautions about the ratio of lye and vegetable oil, especially if you are using waste vegetable oil.
You will probably be using waste oil more than fresh vegetable oil because of the virtually free and abundant supply of the former from local restaurants. In that case, you will need to go through the annoying process of titration to determine the amount of lye you will need to use.
An automated biodiesel processor will be a dream come true for such people. In fact these processors offer an extremely good deal that will tempt anybody. An automated biodiesel processor usually comes with in-built blender, heater and filter. All you need to do is to pour the oil, alcohol and lye (catalyst) at the ratio indicated in the manual. Then, simply push a button and the processor will operate automatically much like a washing machine.
Some automated biodiesel processors are also available with in-built washer as it washes the oil after separating it from glycerin and dries it out completely. You may need to drain out the glycerin, which you can use for some other purpose. Some processors also come with a nozzle to help you fuel your car.
One disadvantage of buying an automated processor for domestic use may be that, at present, automated processors are far costlier than a modular or a portable processor. In the US, an automated processor may cost you anything between $7000 and $15000. However, with such luxury available as your own biofuel at the push of a button, you will probably think it to be an excellent investment. Remember, the biodiesel that you are going to produce is going to cost you even less than $1 per liter.
